Public and Police Suffer Due to Smoke Near Kaniyur Police Station in Tirupur

Residents and police at Kaniyur Police Station, near Tirupur, struggle with smoke from a nearby garbage burning site affecting their health and visibility on roads.

Tirupur: In an unfortunate incident at Kaniyur near Tirupur, the local police station and residents are grappling with heavy smoke emanating from a burning garbage dump site, creating a hazardous working and living environment. The Kaniyur Police Station, operational near Jothampatti, is adversely affected as it is located close to the zone where waste from Jothampatti Panchayat is routinely discarded and often set on fire.

The incident occurred yesterday afternoon when a sudden ignition at the dump site produced thick smoke engulfing the police station. This made it difficult for the police officers to breathe and perform their duties effectively. Additionally, the dense smoke spread to the nearby Madathukulam road, causing severe visibility issues for drivers, leading to traffic disturbances and risks of accidents.

Local residents are now urging the district administration to relocate the garbage dumping site or implement measures to prevent such fires, prioritizing the health and safety of the community and the smooth functioning of road traffic.
