A wild elephant caused a commotion when it entered the food storage area at Vellingiri foothill near Coimbatore on June 13, searching for food. Locals used bananas to lure it out after a prolonged struggle.

Coimbatore: In an unusual incident, a wild elephant breached a food storage facility at the famed Vellingiri Andavar Temple in Coimbatore's Western Ghats foothills, leading to a chaotic situation yesterday. The region, being adjacent to dense forests, often witnesses wild elephants visiting local villages in search of food.

On this occurrence, the solitary elephant wandered into the community kitchen setup for temple devotees where food provisions are stored. Panicked by the sudden intrusion, the temple authorities engaged in a prolonged effort to guide the elephant out by tossing bananas into its path.
