Ukkadam-Aathupalam Flyover in Coimbatore Nears Completion, Illuminated with Lights

The Ukkadam-Athupalam Flyover in Coimbatore has reached 90 percent completion and is now illuminated with lights, facilitating smoother traffic flow.

Coimbatore: The Ukkadam-Aathupalam Flyover, critical for reducing traffic congestion and streamlining vehicular movement among major routes like Pollachi, Udumalai, Palani, Dindigul, and neighboring regions, is nearing its completion. Announced in 2011 by the Tamil Nadu Government, the flyover aimed to ease the daily commute for thousands of vehicles traveling these routes.

The construction, which started in earnest in 2018, advanced through various phases even during times slowed by the pandemic. With an extended design that now includes turning points towards Pollachi and Palakkad roads, the ongoing work on the flyover project has reached its final stages of completion.

The flyover spans 1,454.80 meters and features 125 pillars to support its four-lane design. The initiative, costing around ₹360 crore with additional compensations bringing the total to ₹480 crore, stands as a testament to significant infrastructural advancement.

The bridge's final phase is nearly complete with a broadened path measuring 17.2 meters, easing pickups and drop-offs at eight critical points. As the project moves towards an operational state, trial runs are soon to be conducted.

Since June 13, the flyover has been illuminated, providing a visually appealing spectacle to onlookers and signifying that the Ukkadam-Aathupalam Flyover is set to soon play a pivotal role in Coimbatore’s transportation network.
