Three Arrested for Selling Banned Tobacco Products Near Sulur

Near Sulur Boat House, three individuals were apprehended by the police for transporting and selling banned tobacco products. Multiple items were seized including 200 kg of tobacco and a vehicle.


Coimbatore: In a major crackdown on illegal trade, the Sulur police detained three persons for transporting and selling banned tobacco products in the vicinity of Sulur Boat House on May 31, following a tip-off. During a routine vehicle check near Sulur Boat House, police intercepted a four-wheeler carrying the suspected items.

The individuals identified as Gelaram (26) from Rajasthan, Naga Ram (24) from Rajasthan, and Manikanda Boopathi (39) from Chettipalayam, were found in possession of tobacco products.



Upon thorough inspection, authorities confiscated approximately 200 kilograms of banned tobacco products valued at around INR 1.57 lakhs, along with the vehicle used for transportation.

Subsequently, the trio was arrested and all seized items were taken into custody by the Sulur Police. They were later remanded to judicial custody.
