Woman Killed in Road Accident Near Kallar Railway Gate, Coimbatore

Near Kallar Railway Gate on the Mettupalayam-Coonoor road, a woman was killed when a tipper truck collided with the two-wheeler she was riding. The accident also left two children injured.


Coimbatore: A tragic road accident occurred near Kallar Railway Gate on Mettupalayam-Coonoor Road, resulting in the death of a 35-year-old woman, Pavithra. Pavithra, wife of Danasekaran who is currently serving in the Chennai Police, was riding the two-wheeler with her daughter Anbu, 4, and niece Kayal, 8. Their vehicle was abruptly hit by an oncoming tipper lorry. Pavithra died at the scene, while the children were thrown off the vehicle, suffering injuries.

The incident happened as they were returning home after finding a local farm closed. Onlookers quickly moved the injured children to Mettupalayam Government Hospital, and later, they were transferred to Coimbatore Government Hospital for further treatment.

Following the incident, Mettupalayam Police took the driver of the lorry, named Anu, into custody, initiating an investigation into the causes of the accident. The body of Pavithra was taken to the hospital for autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death.
