Fire Incident at Coconut Fiber Warehouse in Dharapuram Causes Severe Damage

A fire broke out due to an electrical short-circuit at a coconut fiber factory near Dharapuram, causing damage worth Rs. 80 lakhs. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly four hours.

Dharapuram: A massive fire engulfed the Sri Saravana Kayirs coconut fiber manufacturing unit owned by Ravi in Thottipalayam village, near Dharapuram, earlier today. The fire, caused by an electrical short-circuit around 1 PM, quickly spread throughout the storage area where coconut husks were processed and packed.

The facility, which separates fiber from coconut husks and packages it, is known to supply these fibers to regions like Kerala and Nagercoil. Stored stock worth approximately Rs. 80 lakhs ready for export was completely burnt in the incident.

Upon noticing the uncontrollable flames, workers at the factory promptly alerted the fire departments of Dharapuram and Udumalai. The firefighters, who toiled for about four hours, managed to contain the blaze but not before significant damage was done. All the stacked coconut fiber bundles were entirely consumed by the fire.

Following the incident, Kudatam Police registered a case and have initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire, focusing on the electrical mismanagement that led to this costly disaster at the facility.
