Coimbatore Police Warns Against Negligence in Residential Safety

Coimbatore residents urged by the police to maintain safety measures, especially during rains, after two children tragically died from electrocution at Raman Vihar residential area in Chinnavedampatti.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Police recently issued a warning highlighting the critical need for proper maintenance of electrical installations and general safety precautions in residential areas. This advisory comes following a heartbreaking incident in Chinnavedampatti near Saravanampatti, where two young children, Viyoma Priya, aged 8, and Jeyan Reddy, aged 6, tragically lost their lives due to electrocution while playing in a park at Raman Vihar residential complex on Thursday.

A thorough investigation is underway, with the local police station taking necessary actions to prevent such occurrences in the future. The city and its surroundings are currently experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall, leading to waterlogging and potential leakages in walls and electrical poles, increasing the risk of similar hazards.

Furthermore, the police have emphasized the importance of residents ensuring that all electrical connections and devices within their dwellings and surrounding areas, such as parks and other structures, are securely and safely installed. With the ongoing rainy season, the dangers posed by damaged electrical wires and waterlogged areas become significantly heightened.

Residents are advised to periodically check the condition of electrical fittings and ensure there are no exposed or damaged wires. Additionally, associations should hire trained electricians or electricity board workers for regular maintenance to ensure safety during adverse weather conditions. The police stress that negligence in these matters could lead to severe consequences and must be avoided.
