Flood Preparedness Drill Conducted by Firefighters in Valparai Amid Heavy Rains

In response to heavy rains in Valparai's surroundings, the Fire Department conducted a flood preparedness drill. This comes as rising river levels threaten the area due to ongoing rainfall.

Coimbatore: As heavy rains continue to drench the Valparai region, the local Fire Department has taken proactive measures by conducting a flood preparedness drill. The area, known for its tourist influx especially during May, faces the risk of flood due to the overflowing rivers like Koolangal river, Chinakallar waterfall, Karumalai river, and Kejamudi river.

The drill was crucial in planning rescue operations in the event of tourists or locals getting caught in sudden river overflows. Exercises included mock scenarios where firefighters rescued a struggling child from the water using ropes and demonstrated techniques to safely retrieve individuals from water.

Following the drill, notices were distributed to tourists, advising them on safety precautions during the rainy season in river areas. The event saw participation from various departments including Health, Revenue, and Police, ensuring a collaborative effort towards safety and preparedness in Valparai.
