Police officers cannot travel on government buses without a ticket, clarifies Transport Department

In Nagercoil, a dispute erupted when a police officer, Arumugapandi, reportedly attempted to travel without a ticket citing his uniform. The incident went viral on social media.

Coimbatore: A recent incident involving police officer Arumugapandi who tried to travel from Nagercoil to Thoothukudi via Tirunelveli without a ticket has sparked widespread attention. The officer claimed that being in uniform exempted him from needing a ticket, leading to a heated argument with the bus driver and conductor. This altercation was caught on camera and quickly went viral on social media platforms.

Following the uproar, the Transport Department issued a clarification stating that police officers can only travel without a ticket if they are on warrant duty. At all other times, they must purchase tickets like any other passenger. The department has recommended disciplinary action against the Nanguneri-based police officer involved in the dispute.
