Passengers in Distress as Rainwater Floods Coimbatore-Mayiladuthurai Jan Shatabdi Express

Heavy rainfall caused flooding inside the Coimbatore-Mayiladuthurai Jan Shatabdi Express on May 20, leading to passenger discomfort. Calls for railway management to find a solution have intensified.

Coimbatore: Passengers aboard the Jan Shatabdi Express train from Coimbatore to Mayiladuthurai faced severe inconvenience as compartments were flooded with rainwater. The heavy rains across Tamil Nadu have been affecting various districts, impacting daily transport. Among those severely affected was the Jan Shatabdi Express, crucial for daily commuters traveling through Erode, Trichy, and Thanjavur towards Mayiladuthurai.

During the journey on May 20, between Karur and Erode, compartments, notably D14, were flooded due to heavy rain causing hardship, especially for families with children. Passengers resorted to using paper cups to prevent the teeming rainwater from invading their space further.

Significantly, this is not an isolated incident as previously the Chennai-Coimbatore Jan Shatabdi had similar issues with waterlogging inside the train compartments. Urgent requests have been made to railway management for immediate resolution, notably after consecutive incidents raising safety and comfort concerns.

This recurring problem during the rain season poses significant discomfort for passengers, and highlights the need for swift and effective measures to prevent such future occurrences.
