In Udumalai, Tirupur district, nine persons were arrested under the POCSO Act, following the assault of two minor girls. The charges for seven have now been altered under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
Tirupur: In a disturbing incident from Udumalai, two minor girls, ages 17 and 13, were subjected to sexual assault, leading to the arrest of nine individuals, including three minors, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on the evening of October 12th.
Six of the accused are currently detained in Tirupur Jail, while the three juveniles have been placed in a juvenile home in Coimbatore.
Following these arrests, the photographs of the accused, identified as Jayakaleeswaran, Madankumar, Paranikumar, Yuvaprakash, Nandhagopal, and Bawa Bharathi, were released by the Udumalai Police sub-inspector's office.
Furthermore, except for one minor, charges against seven of the accused have been modified under the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, according to an official report from the Udumalai sub-inspector's office. The legal process is ongoing, with heightened scrutiny of the case due to the sensitive nature and the implications of the additional charges under the SC/ST Act.
