A former surveyor in Coimbatore was arrested for allegedly defrauding ₹77 lakh by promising government jobs. The accused had claimed connections with a high-ranking official in Chennai.
Coimbatore: In a shocking development, a former surveyor from Coimbatore, Kalaichandran, aged 36, has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a government job scam amounting to ₹77 lakh. The incident came to light when Karthik, the son of Murugan, a resident of Chidambaram in Cuddalore district, filed a complaint. Murugan, who previously worked as an assistant in the Coimbatore Collector's office, believed Kalaichandran’s promises of securing a government job for his son due to purported connections with a high-ranking female officer in Chennai.
Karthik, aged 30, along with a few acquaintances, were convinced by Kalaichandran to pay substantial amounts over the period of 2022-23 with the assurance of employment. However, the appointment orders they received, allegedly signed and certified by government authorities, were later discovered to be fake, leading to severe consequences for the victims involved.
Further investigations revealed the deep involvement of other accomplices, including Shanthi and Kanagamani. The case against Kalaichandran includes fraud and breach of trust among other charges. Following Murugan's death due to health issues, exacerbated by the stress from the scam, Karthik pursued legal action, culminating in yesterday's arrest on May 10, 2024. This incident has also led to Kalaichandran’s dismissal from his position.
