Driver Arrested for Smuggling Ration Rice in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: In a stringent move against the smuggling of ration rice, IG of Civil Supplies CID, Josi Nirmal Kumar, has ordered rigorous actions. Supervised by Coimbatore Regional Police Superintendent Chandrasekaran, the Civil Supplies Crime Investigation Department of Pollachi conducted vehicle inspections today near the Pothanur flyover on Chettipalayam Road.

During the inspections, police intercepted a cargo vehicle bearing Kerala registration. Upon examination, they discovered 30 kilograms of ration rice intended for smuggling to Kerala. Subsequently, the police arrested the driver, Tamil Selvan, aged 45, hailing from Moongil Madai in Kerala. The action represents significant enforcement following the directive to curb the smuggling of government-supplied commodities.
