TNAU Conducts Workshop on Industrial Designs and Copyrights for Agricultural Engineering Students

TNAU's Patent Cell hosted a workshop on Industrial Designs and Copyrights on May 3, 2024 in Kumulur, Trichy. Dr V. Geethalakshmi and Dr N. Senthil led the event. The workshop saw participation from over 150 students and professors. They discussed the importance and advantages of patent filing.


Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) held a vital "Sensitization workshop on Industrial Designs and Copyrights" for Agricultural Engineering students on May 3, 2024. The event was organized by the Patent Cell of the School of Post Graduate Studies at the Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Kumulur, Trichy.



The workshop was guided by the Director, Dr. V. Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor of TNAU Coimbatore, and Dr. N. Senthil, Dean of the School of Post Graduate Studies. It witnessed the participation of 152 third and final year students along with all faculty members. This college is known for its active role in patent filing, having already secured four design patents including the notable Neem fruit picker cum collector and the Hand Operated Palmyrah Young Fruit Opener.

Dr. R. Thiyagarajan, Associate Professor and Head of the Dept. of FM&PE at AEC&RI Kumulur, kicked off the event. Dr. P. Rajkumar, during his inaugural speech, emphasized the importance of acquiring patents which provides numerous benefits. He encouraged both students and staff to pursue patent applications and outlined facilities available for unique research works.

Dr. N. Senthil, in his address, noted that out of 63 patent applications filed in the past two years, 43 have been granted. He stressed the importance of continuing to seek intellectual property protection for engineering innovations. Dr. R. Kavitha and Nireesh Kumar, T.V., provided insights into the process of drafting successful patents and shared legal aspects of intellectual property.

The workshop concluded with an interactive online presentation by patent attorney Dr. V. Girija, who detailed various aspects of the patenting process. Dr. N. Natarajan, Coordinator of the Patent Cell, proposed the vote of thanks, marking the forward of 3 copyright and 7 design applications for future filing by the Patent Cell.
