Artificial Canopies Installed at Traffic Signals Provide Relief for Motorists in Coimbatore

In Coimbatore, Artificial green canopies have been installed at the Mettupalayam Road-Kannappa Nagar intersection, providing much-needed relief from the severe heat to motorists at traffic signals.

Coimbatore: In response to the scorching temperatures which have been averaging around 103 degrees for over ten days, the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation has taken a significant step to aid motorists.

Artificial canopy structures have been erected at various traffic signals across the city, with significant positive feedback from the public.

The initiative, which began at the intersection of Mettupalayam Rd and Kannappa Nagar, involves the installation of a semi-permanent, green-colored fabric canopy that spans approximately 15 meters. This installation covers part of the road at the traffic signals, offering shade and reducing the heat's impact on two-wheeler riders who often suffer in the oppressive temperatures while waiting at traffic junctions.

Motorists have expressed relief at this development, noting that the canopies significantly help mitigate the discomfort caused by the heat. The measure is currently seen as a test project, and based on its success, plans are in place to expand the installation to other traffic signals around Coimbatore, aiming to provide a widespread benefit during hot weather periods.
