Price Hike in Tender Coconut Due to Scarcity in Pollachi and Anaimalai Areas

In Pollachi and Anaimalai, the price of a ton of tender coconuts has been fixed at Rs. 15,500, with individual coconuts costing Rs. 39 amid the summer heat wave.

Coimbatore: The regions of Pollachi and Anaimalai, known for their extensive coconut cultivation, are witnessing a significant price hike in tender coconuts. The current heat wave has intensified the demand among the public, leading to an increase in prices. Recently, the price for a single tender coconut has been raised to Rs. 39, while the farm price per ton reached Rs. 15,500.

This escalation is attributed to the rampant demand in Tamil Nadu and neighboring Kerala. Anaimalai Tender Coconut Producers Association reported that the intense summer temperatures have increased coconut consumption significantly. Last week’s price was escalated by Rs. 1 per coconut due to the thriving demand and limited supply.

The scarcity of tender coconuts in the market has sparked fierce competition among traders, forcing them to pay premium prices. The shortage is severe enough that further price increases are expected next week. Local coconut farmers are urged not to sell at reduced prices due to this shortage, aiming to stabilize the market and ensure fair wages for their produce.
