The Nilgiris:In a startling weather event, the hill town of Ooty in the Nilgiris district recently recorded its highest-ever temperature. The Chennai Meteorological Center reported that on April 28th, the temperature soared to 84.2 degrees Fahrenheit (29 degrees Celsius), surpassing all previous records. This figure is notably higher by 10 degrees Fahrenheit (5.4 degrees Celsius) than typical temperatures for this time of the year.

Typically, during the summer, tourists from various districts including Coimbatore and other states flock to Ooty to escape the heat. However, this year, even Ooty, known for its cool climate, is grappling with an increase in temperature. The previous highest temperature recorded in Ooty was 83 degrees Fahrenheit in the year 1986. Thus, this new peak marks a significant meteorological milestone for the region, indicating a shift in climatic patterns that might affect the tourist influx and ecological balance of this popular hill station.
