In Coimbatore's Ramanathapuram area, thieves broke into an engineer's house and stole 41 sovereigns of gold and Rs. 23,000 in cash. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
Coimbatore: In a disconcerting incident in Ramanathapuram's Sungam Bypass, Shivaram Nagar, a break-in was reported at the residence of Manmathan, a 55-year-old engineer working in Trichy. His wife, Anuradha (52), had locked the home on April 23 to visit Trichy, following which the couple traveled to Darjeeling for personal reasons.

Upon their return, the housemaid, Susheela, noticed the front door had been forcefully opened and immediately informed Anuradha. The subsequent check revealed the house in disarray, with 41 sovereigns of gold jewelry and Rs. 23,000 in cash missing from the bureau – a clear indication that this was the work of prepared robbers monitoring the house. After the distraught return to Coimbatore on April 27, Anuradha filed a complaint at the Ramanathapuram Police Station.
Following the complaint, police initiated an investigation, recording the incident and scrutinizing fingerprints at the scene. Efforts are underway to retrieve images from CCTV footage to identify the culprits. Further updates on the police investigation are awaited.
