Call for Legal Action Against DMK District Councilor for Assaulting a Woman Village Administrative Officer

Vanathi Srinivasan MLA demands legal action against a DMK District Councilor who kicked a Woman Village Administrative Officer in Ayandur, near Viluppuram, during election duties.

Coimbatore: In a recent statement issued on April 27th, Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan called for rightful legal punishment against a DMK District Councilor involved in physically assaulting a woman government official in Ayandur, near Viluppuram. The incident occurred at a polling station, where the District Councilor Rajiv Gandhi kicked and verbally abused Shanthi, the Woman Village Administrative Officer engaged in election duties. Despite lodging a complaint at the local police station, no immediate action was taken against the councilor, causing uproar among government officials and prompting eventual arrest by the police following widespread condemnation. The MLA emphasized that mere arrest is insufficient and insisted on a legal trial to ensure such abuses of power are strictly penalized. She criticized the DMK for perceiving government employees as subordinates, highlighting that any mistreatment or derogatory behavior towards employees reflects badly on the party's conduct. She urged stringent actions to end such autocratic behaviors supposedly commonplace under DMK governance.
