Immediate Removal Orders for Unauthorized Borewells in Coimbatore

Due to rising drought conditions and water scarcity in Coimbatore, many unauthorized borewells have been installed. The Public Works Department has now issued orders for their immediate removal.

Coimbatore: Amid escalating drought conditions and a severe shortage of water resources, Coimbatore has seen a rise in the number of unauthorized borewell installations across the district. The installations have increased significantly over the past few days due to the intense heatwave affecting the region, leading to heightened water scarcity.

In response to these actions, the Public Works Department has received complaints about individuals searching for groundwater reservoirs and installing borewells without proper permissions. Following these reports, the Department has issued a strict directive stating that all such unauthorized borewells will be removed immediately if they are found. This move comes as a measure to prevent the depletion of groundwater and manage the water resources more sustainably.

This action underscores the government's effort to regulate water usage and ensure availability for all amidst ongoing environmental challenges. Residents are urged to report unauthorized water extraction activities to authorities to help maintain groundwater levels and avoid further depletion.
