Demand for Basic Amenities: Hill Residents Cast Votes with High Hopes Near Udumalai

Hill residents near Udumalai in Anaimalai Tiger Reserve cast their votes eagerly, urging for the fulfillment of basic amenities promised by politicians.

Coimbatore: In the serene hill areas near Udumalai, under the jurisdiction of Kothandur and Por Parkudi among others, residents from over five mountain villages made their way to a government school in Kothandur to vote. With the polling booth set up amidst these remote regions, the mountain-dwelling communities showcased high enthusiasm from early morning, forming long queues to exercise their democratic rights.

Despite living in these regions for over 30 years, the residents express their disappointment over unfulfilled political promises. "Every election, politicians come to us with promises of renovating old homes, building new ones, and providing essential services like potable water. However, once the elections are over, these promises are seldom realized," shared one of the local voters. Despite such setbacks, they remain committed to performing their civic duties.

The hill residents thus continue to assert their need for basic amenities to be met, which they hope will finally materialize following their active participation in the democratic process.
