DMK files Complaint against K Annamalai for MCC Violation in Coimbatore

Annamalai, BJP candidate for Coimbatore, is accused of violating the Model Code of Conduct by organizing sports tournaments for first-time voters on 6th and 7th April 2024, allegedly involving bribery and misuse of government machinery.


Coimbatore: A complaint has been lodged against Annamalai, the BJP candidate contesting from the Coimbatore constituency, alleging violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The complaint accuses him of organizing sports events such as cricket and football specifically targeting first-time voters on the 6th and 7th of April 2024. According to the complaint, these events are a direct violation of election norms, as pamphlets featuring the 'Lotus' symbol along with images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Annamalai have been distributed. It's further alleged that there are plans to distribute money to young voters under the guise of these sports events.

The complaint highlights Annamalai's position as the BJP state president of Tamil Nadu and criticizes the exploitation of his influential role and the misuse of government machinery for election benefits. The complaint refers to the GENERALCONDUCT #4 of the MCC, pointing out activities deemed as "corrupt practices" under election law, including voter bribery and intimidation, are being flouted.

By organizing these sports tournaments, the complaint asserts Annamalai is not only engaging in corrupt practices but also plans to distribute money to young voters, thus compromising the integrity of the electoral process. The complainant urges the Election Commission to intervene and halt the planned sports events on the 6th and 7th of April 2024 in the Coimbatore constituency, emphasizing the commission's duty to ensure a free and fair election.
