Kangeyam BJP functionary accuses of 24-hour liquor sale in TN - lodges complaint with Election Commission of India.

A BJP functionary from Kangeyam has submitted a complaint to the Election Commission of India concerning unauthorized liquor sales within the state, urging prompt measures against those infringing the law.

Coimbatore: A controversy has erupted in Kangeyam, Tiruppur district, after a BJP functionary accused all TASMAC bars in the area of engaging in continuous, 24-hour liquor sales, disregarding authorized operating hours.

Gopalakrishnan, a BJP functionaryhighlighted the issue by uploading a live video from a government-run TASMAC shop on Kangeyam - Palayamkottai Road, showcasing the sales taking place beyond permitted times.

He has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India against Tamil Nadu Election Commission, and relevant authorities, detailing violations at TASMAC shops not only in Kangeyam but across Tamil Nadu.

Despite being under the control of the Tamil Nadu Election Commission following the announcement of election dates, liquor is reportedly being sold at higher prices outside the legally allowed hours, he stated in his complaint mail.

Gopalakrishnan also raised concerns over the enforcement of rules, questioning the Election Commission's flying squads' effectiveness in curbing illegal liquor sales during restricted hours, in contrast to their efficiency in seizing money from farmers involved in livestock sales.

Furthermore, he suggested that continuous liquor sales might be aimed at preventing the public from voting with a clear mind. He has called for the immediate closure of all TASMAC shops and bars in Tamil Nadu until the conclusion of elections.
