Fire Incident at Private Wind Farm in Puliyamarathupatti Due to Electrical Leakage Sparks Concern

A fire broke out at a privately owned wind farm in Puliyamarathupatti, near Dharapuram, due to an electrical leakage, causing a turbine to catch fire. The incident has prompted immediate response from the Dharapuram Fire Department.

Coimbatore: A significant fire incident occurred at a privately-owned wind farm in Puliyamarathupatti, under Chinna Puthur Village Panchayat near Dharapuram, raising alarms over electrical safety in wind power generation facilities. The fire was caused by an electrical leakage at one of the turbines at the Samay India Pvt. Ltd wind farm, a part of the region's sprawling private sector involvement in wind energy production.

Tirupur district, especially around Dharapuram and in areas like Puliyamarathupatti, hosts numerous private enterprises that have invested in wind farms to harness wind energy for electricity production. However, the sudden electrical leakage in one of the turbines at the Samay India Pvt. Ltd facility led to a fire, highlighting potential risks associated with wind power generation.

As the fire engulfed the turbine, one of its blades (fans) fell to the ground, and two more were in danger of collapsing. The Dharapuram Fire Department has been actively trying to extinguish the fire and prevent further damage or risk to the surrounding area. The incident has brought to the forefront the need for stringent safety measures and regular maintenance checks in the renewable energy sector, particularly in wind farms, to prevent such hazardous occurrences.

The local authorities and the company involved are investigating the cause of the electrical leakage and are expected to implement additional safety protocols to avert similar incidents in the future. This event has also sparked a discussion among the local community and stakeholders about the importance of maintaining and upgrading infrastructure to ensure the safety and efficiency of green energy production facilities.
