Coimbatore: Amidst growing concerns, Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Badri Narayanan addressed the media today, March 14, to clarify the situation regarding rumors of child kidnappings spreading through WhatsApp in areas like Periyanayakanpalayam and Mettupalayam.

He categorically dismissed these rumors as entirely baseless, emphasizing that the public should not give credence to these unfounded allegations.

The Superintendent further explained that these rumors have been circulating as voice recordings and stressed that the police department can assert with 100% certainty that these claims are nothing but rumors. He urged the community not to be swayed by such misinformation, which could cause unnecessary panic and distress.

Badri Narayanan also highlighted the context that many people from northern states work in various industries in Coimbatore. He pointed out that spreading such rumors not only causes unwarranted fear among the public but also has the potential to create discord between the people from northern states and the local Tamil community. He firmly advised against believing in these rumors, emphasizing the importance of maintaining harmony within the diverse population of Coimbatore.

Additionally, the Superintendent of Police noted that no such incidents have been reported to the police, and investigations are underway to identify the sources of these false alarms. He assured that prompt action would be taken against those found responsible for spreading such misinformation.

This clarification comes at a crucial time as the district prepares for various civic and public events, ensuring the safety and security of its residents remain a top priority for the police force.
