Karpagam Academy and Startup TN Sign MoU to Boost Innovation and Support Startups

Karpagam Academy of Higher Education and Startup Tamil Nadu have inked a MoU on 05/03/2024 to foster innovation and support startups, disbursing a DST ignition grant of Rs. 25 lakhs to seven startups at an event promoting the upcoming "Impairathon".


Coimbatore: The Karpagam Academy of Higher Education, through its Karpagam Innovation and Incubation Council (KIIC), in a collaborative effort with Startup Tamil Nadu, has taken a significant step towards nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship. On 05/03/2024, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed between the two entities, marking a commitment to support burgeoning startups and innovation in the region.

This partnership is poised to offer a broad spectrum of support to startups, primarily focusing on innovation and development in various sectors. A highlight of the event was the disbursement of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) ignition grant, which amounted to Rs. 25 lakhs, benefiting seven startups. Such grants are essential for enabling inventors and entrepreneurs to turn their innovative ideas into tangible products and services, thereby contributing to the economy and society at large.

The ceremony also saw the unveiling of the official poster for the "Impairathon" event by Sivarajah Ramanathan, the Managing Director & CEO of Startup Tamil Nadu. The upcoming Impairathon, organized by KIIC in collaboration with several notable partners including Startup TN, Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), TANCOM, and the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Karpagam Academy of Higher Education (KAHE), aims to address challenges in assistive technology and meet the specific needs of physically challenged individuals. This initiative underscores the commitment to leveraging technology for societal benefit.







Distinguished attendees at the event included Dr. R. Vasantha Kumar, President of the Karpagam Education Group; Prof. Dr. B. Venkatachalapathy, Vice Chancellor of Karpagam University; Dr.S. Ravi, Registrar of Karpagam University; and Sivarajah Ramanathan, alongside other significant figures from STPI, Startup TN, and the academic fraternity of KAHE.

Dr. R. Vasanthakumar and Sivarajah Ramanathan highlighted the importance of innovation for national development and societal welfare, emphasizing qualities such as self-esteem, intuition, and the pursuit of knowledge as key drivers for successful entrepreneurship.

The event concluded with the distribution of the DST Ignition grant to seven recipients, showcasing the tangible support being provided to foster innovation and entrepreneurship within the state. This initiative by Karpagam Academy and Startup TN represents a vital step towards creating a robust ecosystem for startups, aligning with broader goals of economic growth and social development.
