In a first for the city municipality, an indoor sports arena commemorating Dr. Kalaignar's centenary has been unveiled at P.K. Pudur, Balu Garden, under the Namakku Naame initiative, enhancing local sports infrastructure.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore City Corporation has marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of the Dr. Kalaignar Centenary Indoor Sports Arena, located in the southern zone, within Ward No. 92's P.K. Pudur, Balu Garden area. Constructed at a cost of Rs. 47 lakhs under the Namakku Naame scheme, this state-of-the-art facility aims to boost local sports infrastructure and provide a versatile venue for various indoor sports activities. The arena was officially opened for student use by Hon. Dayanidhi Maran, MP of Central Chennai, in a grand ceremony attended by Deputy Mayor Mr. R. Vetriselvan, former Thondamuthur Panchayat President Mr. Ravi, South Zone Chairman Mrs. A. Dhanalakshmi, ruling party leader Mr. Ira. Karthikeyan, council members Mr. Senthilkumar, Mr. Babu, Mr. Aslam Basha, Mr. Murugesan, Mr. Ahamed Kabir, former board chairman Ms. Sindhu Ravichandran, Coimbatore North District Secretary Tho. Ar. Ravi, Ward 92 Club Secretary Sivashakti Club officials, Assistant Commissioner Mr. Prem Anand, Assistant Engineer Mr. Kanagaraj, along with municipal officers. This initiative not only commemorates the centennial celebration of Dr. Kalaignar but also aims to foster a nurturing environment for budding athletes in the region.
