Vijay Enters TN Politics; Announces launch of "Thamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam" to Champion Fundamental Political Change

Actor Vijay's announcement of his new political party aspires to address corruption, administrative inefficiencies, and divisive politics, emphasizing the need for transparent, caste and corruption-free governance.

Coimbatore: Actor Vijay announced the formation of the "Thamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam", a move sparked by the desire for comprehensive social, economic, and political reforms. For years, the "Vijay People Movement" has been actively involved in various welfare and social service initiatives. However, Vijay pointed out the limitations of a non-political organization in effecting total reform and stressed the necessity of political power to achieve significant societal change.

The actor criticized the current political climate, highlighting administrative malpractices and a "corruption-infested political culture" on one side, and a "divisive political culture" on the other, which hinders unity and progress. He advocated for a selfless, transparent political system that transcends caste and religious differences, embodying the principle of equality for all, in line with the Indian constitutional framework and the rights of the Tamil Nadu state.

Vijay expressed his long-term commitment to serving the people and the Tamil community to the best of his ability. He announced that the "Thamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam" has been officially registered with the Election Commission of India, following the approval of the party's leadership, constitution, and bylaws during a recent meeting in Chennai.

The actor outlined the party's goal to contest the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections to facilitate the fundamental political changes desired by the people of Tamil Nadu. He emphasized that the party would not contest the upcoming 2024 Parliamentary elections nor support any other party, reaffirming his view of politics as a sacred duty to the people rather than a mere profession.

Vijay's announcement marks a significant commitment to politics, driven by a deep desire to engage fully in public service, following the completion of his obligations to an upcoming film project. This move is seen as a gesture of gratitude to the people of Tamil Nadu, who have given him name, fame, and support throughout his career.
