The 2nd edition of CMS Mini Marathon, flagged off by former Tamil Nadu DGP Sylendra Babu, saw over 2000 participants running to raise awareness against drug and child abuse.

Coimbatore: CMS Vidya Mandir successfully organized the 2nd edition of the CMS Mini Marathon in Coimbatore on Sunday, witnessing the participation of over 2000 individuals. This event was specifically designed to combat drug and child abuse.

C. Sylendra Babu, Former Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu, was the chief guest who flagged off the marathon and also participated in it. The marathon included three categories: a 2KM run for kids and their parents, and competitive 5KM and 10KM runs.

The top ten runners in the open categories were awarded a total cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000, while the top ten in the student category received trophies. All participants were honored with medals and certificates.

K.K. Ramachandran, President of CMS Management, and General Secretary K. Rajagopalan, along with other dignitaries from CMS Vidya Mandir and the Coimbatore Athletic Association, were present to oversee the event.

Former DGP Sylendra Babu, speaking to the press, highlighted the importance of the marathon, linking it to the efforts of the Tamil Nadu Police Department in combating drug abuse through initiatives like Operation Ganja Vettai. He emphasized the creation of a dedicated department to prevent drug inflow and the extensive awareness campaigns conducted for students.

Sylendra Babu stressed the significance of physical activity, especially for children, lamenting the rarity of kids engaging in basic physical exercises like running. He advocated for the necessity of regular physical activity to ensure the well-being of children and suggested that if every school could conduct a marathon annually, it would greatly benefit the students.
