Coimbatore Corporation takes stringent action by sealing an unauthorized commercial building in violation of approved plans, sparking concern among other violators.
Coimbatore: In a decisive move, the Coimbatore Corporation, led by Officer Kumar and Assistant City Planner Jayalakshmi, sealed an unauthorized commercial building in the city. This action comes in response to the Madurai branch of the High Court's directive to take criminal action against unauthorized constructions.
The building, located on Idayar Street, had approval for a ground plus one floor structure, spanning 3,821 square feet. However, the owner constructed a three-story building with 19 rooms, covering 11,528 square feet, which were leased as jewelry manufacturing workshops.
Upon discovering the violation, the Corporation issued notices and provided time for the workshops to vacate. The sealing action was conducted yesterday morning, drawing attention to the rampant building violations in Coimbatore. This crackdown has caused significant unrest among others who have similarly flouted building norms.
Additionally, there are rising demands for action against buildings that have converted parking spaces into commercial areas. This stern measure by the Corporation is seen as a warning to all those who have deviated from approved building plans.

The aggressive stance of the Coimbatore Corporation is expected to bring more compliance with building regulations and standards in the city.
