ELGi Equipments Innovates to Keep Indian Flag Flying High in Low-Wind Conditions

Coimbatore-based ELGi Equipments develops a unique technology ensuring the Indian flag flies high continuously, even in low-wind scenarios, exemplifying innovation and national pride.

Coimbatore, India, January 19, 2024: ELGi Equipments, a globally recognized leader in air compressor manufacturing, has created a technology solution that enables the continuous flying of a flag during low wind conditions. This innovation, part of "Project Tiranga", aligns with the company’s goal to uphold national pride by ensuring that the Indian flag always flies high.

The project began as an enterprise-wide challenge to leverage ELGi’s expertise in compressed air technology. The result is a mechanical system that includes blowers for lifting the flag, a swivel mechanism for aligning with the wind's direction and speed, and a rope guide system for smooth raising and lowering of the flag. Integrated into a custom 110-foot flag mast at ELGi’s Air Center Plant in Coimbatore, this system ensures the flag's majestic display even when natural wind is absent.

Dr. Jairam Varadaraj, Managing Director of Elgi Equipments Limited, emphasized the company's commitment to innovation and addressing complex challenges. "Project Tiranga was a testament to ELGi’s culture of innovation, long-term thinking, and our ability to draw on deep knowledge and experience in compressed air systems," he said.

With a history spanning over 60 years, ELGi Equipments has been at the forefront of providing advanced compressed air solutions. Their products are utilized in various industries worldwide, including manufacturing, food and beverage, construction, pharmaceuticals, and textiles. Operating in over 120 countries, ELGi's commitment extends beyond product innovation to include sustainable practices like carbon neutrality, water conservation, and circular waste management.
