Teenage Boy Escapes from Anbu Illam in Coimbatore After Arrest for Theft

Coimbatore police search for a 17-year-old boy who escaped from Anbu Illam following his arrest in a theft case.

Coimbatore: In a surprising turn of events, a 17-year-old boy involved in a theft case escaped from Anbu Illam in Coimbatore yesterday. The boy had previously been implicated in two theft cases and was arrested following a recent incident in Ondipudur.

The theft occurred a few days ago in a house in Ondipudur, leading the homeowner to file a complaint at the Singanallur Police Station. Following the complaint, the police and fingerprint experts investigated the scene. The fingerprints found at the site matched those of the 17-year-old boy, who was already known to the police for prior thefts.

Consequently, he was arrested yesterday. Given his age, the police placed him in Anbu Illam, a juvenile home in Ukkadam. However, the boy managed to escape from the facility. The authorities at Anbu Illam alerted the police this morning about the escape.

The police are now examining CCTV footage from the area and conducting a search to locate the escaped teenager. This incident raises concerns about security measures at juvenile facilities and the challenges in managing young offenders.
