Coimbatore: In a recent incident, a woman was apprehended for attempting to steal money on a bus in Coimbatore. The accused, identified as Sumathi (31) from Dharapuram in Tiruppur, reportedly tried to steal ₹5000 from Saraswathi (61), a resident of Kannappiran Mill Road in Coimbatore.

The incident occurred on January 13, when Saraswathi was traveling from Town Hall to Ukkadam on a bus. Sumathi, standing nearby, quietly tried to take the money from Saraswathi's handbag. Saraswathi, upon realizing this, raised an alarm, leading to Sumathi's capture by fellow passengers, who then handed her over to the Ukkadam police.

Following the arrest, it was revealed that Sumathi is the wife of Selvakumar from Dharapuram. The Coimbatore police have taken her into custody for further investigation. This case highlights the importance of vigilance and community intervention in preventing crimes in public spaces.
