Coimbatore’s VOC Zoological Park has started relocating its animals to other facilities after the Central Zoo Authority revoked its license due to inadequate space, affecting the park’s operational status since 2022.
Coimbatore: The animals of Coimbatore’s VOC Zoological Park are being relocated due to inadequate space facilities, as reported by the Central Zoo Authority in 2022, which led to the revocation of the park’s license.
In Coimbatore, the VOC Zoological Park, which has been non-operational for over a year due to a lack of space, is undergoing a major change. The park’s inability to expand its facilities to meet the required standards resulted in the Central Zoo Authority canceling its license last year.

Consequently, the animals and birds have been steadily relocated to alternative locations such as the Vandalur Zoo, Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve, and the Vellore Zoological Park. Today, officials from the Zoo Authority visited the park to conduct an inventory and oversee the relocation process.
The relocation efforts started today with snakes, crocodiles, monkeys, and Rose Pelicans being transferred. The plan is to relocate all animals housed at the VOC Zoological Park to more suitable habitats.

Speaking on the matter, the Director of the VOC Zoological Park, Saravanan, explained that due to the lack of adequate facilities noted by the Central Zoo Authority in 2022, the zoo’s license was revoked. Hence, the decision was made to move the animals to other zoos, including today’s transfer of snakes, crocodiles, monkeys, and Rose Pelicans.
