This was no political meeting with Nirmala Sitharaman - AIADMK MLA Pollachi Jayaraman

"We met the Union Minister in Coimbatore and made demands on the departmental basis and nothing political," Jayaraman said.

Coimbatore: Pollachi Jayaraman has said that he did not meet Minister Nirmala Sitharaman politically.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman participated in a grand loan disbursement ceremony held at Codissia Auditorium in Coimbatore.

AIADMK legislators Pollachi Jayaraman, A K Selvaraj and Amal Kandasamy were present on the occasion.

Ahead of the event, the trio met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in person.

AIADMK legislator Pollachi Jayaraman said, "Last month, we met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi and submitted petitions related to coconut cultivation. "We met Nirmala Sitharaman today to reiterate our petition and reiterated their demands and there is no other political reason for this," he said. Stating that the coir factories are in shambles and the coconut farmers are suffering, he said, "We have been urging the state government and the Central government about this and that is the continuation of which we have been insisting on this even now and there is no other reason other than this."

We have not said anything about the alliance, he said, adding that we have only stressed on coconut farming. To a question on the break-up of the alliance, he said, "It is up to party general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami to take a decision on it." We told chief minister M K Stalin about the farmers' demands that it was not a political meeting. But he did not take any action and since there was no progress despite making demands to the Agriculture Minister in this regard, we have now reiterated it on the basis of a memorandum submitted to the Union Minister.

At the ongoing event, Nirmala Sitharaman said that the Finance Minister is a legislator and the other two ministers have reiterated the demands in the constituency.

Replying to a question on pollachi Jayaraman referring to the word 'Amma' while speaking on the stage, he said, For us, the only Amma is our Puratchi Thalaivi (Jayalalitha) Amma. When we mentioned the Union Finance Minister with respect, we referred to him as 'Amma'. Otherwise, no one can compare Amma (Jayalalitha) with anyone," he replied.
