A special fever camp for dengue and monsoon diseases was organized by the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Netaji Nagar in Chinnavedampatti area of Coimbatore.

Health Minister Ma Subramanian personally inspected the site.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Ma Subramanian said,

It was announced that 1,000 faces will be held in the monsoon disease prevention camps like dengue across Tamil Nadu. As per the guidance of the Chief Minister, the number of 1,000 camps has increased from 1,300 to 1,300 camps today and camps are being conducted at 1300 places.

As far as Coimbatore is concerned, camps are being held at 107 places. It is being conducted in 189 seats in Salem, 129 in Madurai, 45 each in Chennai and Trichy and 12 in the Nilgiris.

These camps are being conducted in each corporation and four locations and in the case of Chennai, 15 zones and 45 on a basis.

Tens of thousands of people are benefitting from these 1,300 camps. These camps are being conducted in places where dengue leptrophyrosis bypass blue has been confirmed.

So far, 2354 people have been benefitted in 107 camps in Coimbatore. In Tamil Nadu, diseases like dengue are under control due to the fact that they have been doing well for the last two years, even though we are taking necessary steps to protect the people from dengue.

Since January 1, there have been 4,354 cases till yesterday. There were 363 people who were admitted to the hospital yesterday and were undergoing treatment. Of these 363, 10 are undergoing treatment in Coimbatore. There is no major loss of life for anyone. It has been raining continuously every day, be it convectional rains and summer rains beyond the southwest and monsoon.

Due to this rain, there are reservoirs here and there. The aedes mosquitoes formed due to it and the dengue caused by it are present. However, as the administrations of the respective district administrations and local administrations are carrying out various coordinated works as per the directions of the Chief Minister, there has been an impact of 454 people till October this year.

As far as dengue is concerned, dengue was detected and more than 13,000 people were infected in 2012. The death toll for that year was 13, followed by 23,000 in 2017, when more than 23,000 people were infected and 65 died.

Tamil Nadu recorded the highest number of deaths in these two years. In the rest of the following years, only one digit of cases were recorded. Last year, 1,000 similar medical camps were conducted under the guidance of the Chief Minister on the grounds that it should not be there.

These camps are being conducted this year as well. He said the camps would be extended till the end of this northeast monsoon if needed more.
