Cow dies in roadkill after being hit by truck near Anaikatti - Police arrest driver

In a tragic incident, a cow died on the spot after being hit by a truck near Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary on the Anaikatti-Coimbatore road. Following this, the truck was seized and the driver is being questioned by the police.


Coimbatore: The post-mortem of a wild cow that died after being hit by a lorry has been conducted. The doctors said the deceased was a female wild cow, aged around 5-6 years, and that the wild cow may have died of cardiac shock caused by the breakdown of the thoracic bone due to the impact of the vehicle and bleeding in the chest cavity.

Following this, the truck was seized and the driver is being questioned by the police.

The Anaikatti hills in Coimbatore are home to wild animals including wild cows, deer, elephants and leopards. These used to pass through Anaikatti coimbatore road from time to time.

Wild cows crossed two roads near Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary on the Anaikatti-Coimbatore road last evening. At that time, a wild cow died on the spot after being hit by a truck coming from there. Another wild cow got injured and went into the forest.

Following this, the truck was seized and the police are interrogating the truck driver. The post-mortem was conducted by Forest Veterinary Surgeon Sukumar in the presence of Divisional Assistant Conservator of Forests, Coimbatore Range Officer and members of an NGO led by the District Forest Officer of Coimbatore Forest Division this morning.

The post-mortem revealed that the deceased was a female wild cow, aged around 5-6 years, and that the wild cow may have died due to cardiac shock caused by the breakdown of the thoracic bone due to the impact of the vehicle and bleeding in the chest cavity. The truck driver is being questioned in connection with the incident.
