In a grievance day meeting chaired by the District Collector in Coimbatore, farmers complained about the discharge of sewage water into the water bodies in Pollachi, Karumathampatti, Mettupalayam, Sulur, Periyanaickenpalayam, Sirumugai, Karamadai and Annur.

Coimbatore: Farmers urged the district administration to take steps to prevent pollution of agriculture and the environment due to dumping of household waste on rural roads.

Therefore, the district administration should take steps to stop this. Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar presided over the farmers' grievances meeting held at the collectorate in Coimbatore.

In a petition submitted at the meeting, Tamil Nadu Farmers Association president Su Palanisamy submitted that the water bodies belonging to Pollachi, Karumathampatti, Mettupalayam, Sulur, Periyanayakanpalayam, Sirumugai, Karamadai and Annur in Coimbatore district are polluted with sewage water.

Therefore, in some places, the water quality of the water is spoiled due to the mixing of hydraulic industrial effluents and urban and rural effluents, causing contamination of ground water, affecting agriculture and the general public.

Moreover, household waste is being dumped on rural roads and public roads are hampering agriculture, causing environmental pollution and spreading diseases to the people.

Therefore, the district administration should take steps to stop this.

A large number of farmers who attended the meeting submitted their petitions to the district collector regarding their demands.
