Due to increase in the arrival of tomatoes in Udumalpet market, the price has come down

In Udumalpet in Tirupur district, a 14-kg box of tomatoes was sold for Rs 1,800 in the market a few days ago, but now the price has come down by half due to the increase in arrivals.

Tirupur: In Udumalpet in Tirupur district, a 14-kg box of tomatoes was sold for Rs 1,800 in the market a few days ago, but now the price has come down by half due to the increase in arrivals.

The farmers said tomato cultivation is predominant in Udumalpet and surrounding areas. Though tomatoes were cultivated throughout the year, most of the time they were incurring losses due to non-availability of remunerative prices.

A few days ago, farmers were happy that the price of chopped tomatoes weighing 14 kg had gone up to Rs 1,800. But at present, the arrival of tomatoes in Udumalpet market is high and depending on the quality, the tomato box is being sold for only Rs 500 to Rs 900.

At the same time, the housewives, who were upset that they had to allocate huge amounts of money for vegetables, including tomatoes, in the family budget, are happy with the fall in tomato prices.
