Traders, claimed that Poo market shops built under Tirupur Smart City project are not comfortable for traders

The Smart City Project recently completed construction of a poo market. Tenders have been floated and the shops have been set up with less space than the existing size. The Poo Market Traders' Association has urged the government to allow the poo market to continue functioning in its current place, as setting up in the new location would cause upheaval for the traders and public.

Tirupu: While the Poo Market on Old Market Road in Tirupur was demolished for renovations as part of the Smart City project, the shops operating there were relocated to the Cotton Market premises on Palladam Road.

In this situation, the poo market construction work has been completed under the Smart City project, and the tender has now been floated, and the shops have been set up with less space than the existing size of the shop.

And in the absence of a new poo market to cater to the crowds of the public the poo market traders' association has urged the government to allow the poo market to function at the place where they are currently functioning as it would cause a lot of disruptions if the shops were set up there.

At a press conference, stated that the poo market established during the previous AIADMK rule was insufficient for traders to set up shop. When the poo market was demolished, the then municipal commissioner granted permission to keep the market on both sides. Now the contractor who auctioned the poo market shops built under the Smart City project has given false information to the court and is taking steps to remove them from the place where they have set up the shop.

However, during the municipal district meeting, a resolution was passed enabling poo markets to operate on both sides of the corporation due to the increase in population. The contractor is constantly making efforts to dispose of themselves. We intend to take legal action. Till then, they have written to the district collector, corporation commissioner and others requesting them to allow them to set up shops and do business where they are now.

Both the mayor of the corporation and the MLA stated that they sent a letter to the ministers and executives of the concerned departments, expressing the same demand. When the poo market vendors were informed about this, they said that the cotton market complex where the shop is currently located is a facility for the traders and the general public visiting the place. If you go to the newly constructed site, there will be a pressure on the public to come and go. They also said that the shops constructed there were built so close that they could not stock and sell flowers as there was no air facility.
