Usurious Practices of Private Bank in Palladam - The Atrocity of Throwing Household Items

A paralysed elderly man who failed to make a monthly installment of a home loan taken from a private bank in Arulpuram Senthoor Colony near Palladam was evicted from his house, and the public detained the employees of a private bank who tried to lock the house.

Tirupur: A private bank employee was detained by the public after they evicted an elderly man and dumped his belongings on the street after they failed to pay a monthly installment of a loan taken near Palladam.

Kandasamy hails from Arulpuram Senthoor Colony near Palladam in Tirupur district. He lives here with his wife Rukmani and his grandsons. 75-year-old Kandasamy is suffering from paralysis and is unable to go to work and is staying at home.

In 2021, he had taken a Rs 5 lakh home loan from Equitas, a private bank in Arulpuram, in the name of his grandson Dinesh Kumar, for the construction of a new house. So far, he has repaid Rs 11,000 per month payments totaling Rs 2.5 lakh.

Due to familial commitments, he had not paid the Rs 11,000 instalment due on the 10th of this month.

After a delay of 20 days, Dinesh and Mani, who came to Kandasamy's house for the last two days, said they were from the bank and had come to lock your house as they had not yet paid the instalments this month.

Following this, they threatened to take away the TV and two-wheeler from the house.

In this case, the two arrived to Kandasamy's house today and asked him to lock the house, throw out the belongings, and make 75-year-old Kandasamy, who suffers from paralysis, sit in a chair brought him out of the house and onto the road.

Shocked by this, the locals took the two into custody, saying that they would lock down the house for not paying a monthly instalment.

The victim's family and the general public have lodged a complaint with the Palladam police against the two, who evicted the elderly man from the house like goons without any identity card and threw him on the road from the stove to the vessels.

Palladam police reached the spot and took the two to the police station and are investigating. There are various provisions such as the time limit for viewing the loan amount, prior notices for action like confiscation and driving the notice in front of the house.

Regardless, the branch behaved like a usurer and has earned widespread distrust in the region. There have also been reports of people in the area threatening the bank manager and deputy management without physically assaulting them and demanding them to drag the bank and shut it down.
