TN government, should develop the ailing Amaravathi cooperative sugar mill - Puthiya Tamizhagam party founder Krishnasamy

The Tamil Nadu government has been actively striving to attract foreign investment. Puthiya Tamizhagam party founder Krishnasamy says during a visit to sugar mills that they must not forget the ailing Amaravathi cooperative sugar mill.

Tirupur: The Tamil Nadu government, which travels abroad to attract investments, should invest in the ailing Amaravathi cooperative sugar mills Puthiya Tamizhagam party founder Krishnasamy says in Udumalai.

Krishnasamy, the founder and leader of the Puthiya Tamizhagam party, made a surprise inspection at the Udumalai Amaravathi Cooperative Sugar Mill in Tirupur district.

Shanmuganathan, the managing director of Amaravathi Co-operative Sugar Mills, Tamil Nadu's first sugar mill, condemned the move to support commercial sugar mills.

Dr. Krishnasamy, who conducted a surprise inspection in the aftermath of continued losses and struggles by workers and farmers, inquired from officials regarding sugarcane crushing and production, as well as plant difficulties.

Later, speaking to the reporters.

The Amaravathi sugar mill has seen administrative lapses over the years, and the issue is to crush 30,000 tonnes of crushing capacity, which was formerly 4 lakh tonnes per annum. He stated that the Tamil Nadu government will benefit a large number of farmers by avoiding investments in foreign countries such as the United States and Japan and instead investing in such old companies in Tamil Nadu.

He further stated that sugarcane crushing, which was formerly at 2000 tonnes per day, has now been reduced to 500 tonnes. As a result, many farmers in the neighbouring areas suffer the most and hold protests on a regular basis. Especially due to the appointment of a managing director who was not consenting to the sugar mill. Farmers are now alleging that he is working in favour of private sugar mills.

Furthermore, many farmers have abandoned sugarcane farming and urged the Tamil Nadu government to pay Rs 250 crore to resurrect the sugar wave. If such scams and mismanagement persist, he continued, the public would be mobilised and protests will be held.
