Car loses control over Podanur-Chettipalayam road, hits electric pole

The vehicle lost control on the Podanur-Chettipalayam road and collided with an electric pole. Riyaz, a Puliyakulam resident, was critically hurt in the accident and was sent to the hospital for treatment.


Coimbatore: A youth was critically hurt when the car in which he was travelling lost control and rammed into an electric pole on the Podanur-Chettipalayam road in Coimbatore district.

Prakash (21) is the son of Amirtharaj, who lives in Rose Garden on the Chettipalayam-Palladam road. Riyaz (21), a Puliyakulam native, was driving to Chettipalayam from Puliyakulam at 11 p.m. on Saturday.

Prakash, the driver, lost control of the car as it approached a private bakery near Chettipalayam and collided with an electric pole on the side of the road.

Riyaz, who was in the car, suffered major injuries to his head and leg. Passers-by rescued Riyaz and Prakash and sent them in a 108 ambulance to a private hospital.

Riyaz has been admitted to the intensive care unit and is undergoing. Chettipalayam police, who came to know about the incident, inspected the spot. A case has since been registered and an investigation is processing.

Due to the collision with an electric pole, the electricity connection in the region was cut off and the area was plunged into darkness. As a result, the employees of the electricity department were engaged in restoration work throughout the night.
