Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan was the chief guest at the World No Tobacco Day event organised by Sri Ramakrishna Cancer Treatment and Research Centre and released the modern online book in the presence of R Sundar, Joint Managing Trustee, SNR Sons Foundation.

Till May this year alone, 250 cases related to tobacco have been registered. 241 persons have been arrested. 1700 kg of tobacco products have been seized. Even after such legal measures, tobacco circulation is widespread.
It is very painful to note that tobacco circulation is rampant among school children. Tobacco products should not be sold up to 100 metres near school and college premises, but it is of little use.
It is important to create awareness about tobacco among school children rather than middle-aged people. Yesterday, 450 kg of drugs were seized from Sundarapuram police station.
Of this, only 150 kg of coollips. Tobacco products like this coolup have a huge impact on school children.
Tobacco products are mostly sourced from Karnataka. This year alone, 170 box shops selling tobacco products, including gutkha, have been shut down.
A non-bailable case is filed only for those selling tobacco products to children. Others are fined only a few hundred rupees.
Therefore, many people are interested in selling tobacco as they get maximum profit.
The Government of Tamil Nadu is continuously engaged in the efforts to eradicate tobacco products.
