Copra Coconut purchased at Karamadai Regulated Market for Rs.2.71 crore

So far, 250 tonnes of dried coconut has been procured at a cost of Rs 2.71 crore at the Karamadai regulated market in Coimbatore district, said Yuvaraj, superintendent of the outlet.


Coimbatore: 250 tonnes of dried coconut has been procured from karamadai regulated market.

Coconut cultivation is mainly carried out in about 2,000 acres in Karamadai and surrounding areas of Coimbatore district.

As a result, people have been continuously demanding the procurement of dried coconuts in the area.

Subsequently, dried coconut has been procured from the karamadai regulated market since last year.

At the regulated market in Karamadai, dried coconut has been available for purchase since April 1. Dried coconuts are brought from a number of locations in Coimbatore, including Pollachi and Negamam, besides Karamadai, Mettupalayam, and Sirumugai.

Ball copra coconuts cost Rs 118 whereas dhal copra coconuts cost Rs 108.60. copra procurement takes place only if the humidity level is below six with a humidifier.

Yuvaraj, superintendent of the regulated market, said the farmers can make reservations by giving their pattas, chitta adangal and other things.

At present, copra coconut is being procured at Rs 108.60 paise and since April 1, 250 tonnes of copra coconut has been procured from 149 farmers for Rs 2.71 crore and they will soon procure their target of 1000 tonnes of copra coconut.

Furthermore, the government owns a cold storage facility with a 500 MT capacity in the megamarket complex in the Chikkadasampalayam panchayat region.

This facility can store items like turmeric, chillies, vegetables, fruits, and flowers. Therefore, he advised traders to utilise this centre.
