Heavy rains, floods cause breach in Madukkarai ground bridge - Municipal President inspects in person

Due to heavy rains in Coimbatore district, the Manjapallam river was flooded and the madukkarai ground bridge was breached. Madukkarai Municipality Chairman Noor Jahan Nasser personally inspected the site and ordered the restoration work.

Coimbatore: A road was completely damaged and swept away in the water that spilled out of the Madukkarai ground bridge due to floods induced by heavy rainfall.

The Manjapallam river in Coimbatore was flooded due to heavy rains in and around Madukkarai. In this example, the ground bridge near the Vinayaka temple on the Madukkarai river was submerged in flood water.

Following this, the tar road between Madukkarai and Kurumbapalayam was completely damaged by the breach in the ground bridge and washed away in the water. Also, the electricity supply has been cut off due to the tilt of an electric pole on Madukkarai road.

In 2020, former minister S P Velumani inaugurated the flyover built at an estimated cost of Rs 50 lakh. However, people have blamed the haste of the work on the ground bridge without providing adequate access to water under the flyover, which led to the collapse of the bridge due to the release of flood water.

Madukkarai Municipality President Noor Jahan Nasser, councillors and officials have inspected the Madukkarai ground bridge and the road washed away and ordered it to carry out restoration work.
