Dharapuram protest : Calling for justice over Thoothukudi village administrative officer

A protest was held in front of the Dharapuram tahsildar's office against the murder of a village administrative officer. The protest demanded that a bill to ensure the safety of government employees should be passed in the Assembly.

Tirupur: Lourdes Francis, the village administrative officer of Murappanadu Kovilpatti village in Thoothukudi district, died in a planned murderous attack while on duty.

The Tamil Nadu Revenue Village Employees' Union held a protest in the premises of Dharapuram taluk office in Tirupur district in the presence of taluk secretary Kanagaraj under the leadership of revenue village employees union circle president Kuppuraj.

While they had already lodged a complaint with the district collector and the police about the sand smuggling, two members of the sand smuggling gang had cut off their heads and hands with sickles.

The critically injured village administrative officer was admitted to the hospital and succumbed to his injuries. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Lourdes Francis has announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the family of village administrative officer Lourdes Francis, who lost his life, and a government job for one of his family members.

The attack on the Village Administrative Officer is not only an attack on the village administrative officers and the revenue village employees who assist them, but also an attack on the entire government employees and the common man.

Considering it as a challenge to public peace, it was urged that all the union members of Dharapuram, public sector unions, departmental associations and the general public should extend their full support and issue an order amending the law to ensure the safety and security of government employees.

The protesters raised slogans demanding that the family of the deceased be documented to get justice. More than 50 people participated in the protest.
