Coimbatore: On Wednesday, people in Coimbatore blocked a road near Mettupalayam to protest against the non-supply of drinking water for the past six days.

More than 1 lakh people live in 33 wards in Mettupalayam municipality. The people of this area are being supplied drinking water by drawing water from Bhavani river.

Meanwhile, in the 23rd ward of the municipality, there has been no supply of drinking water for the last six days.

Several complaints have been made to the municipal authorities in this regard. However, it appears that no steps have been taken to provide drinking water properly.

Enraged by this, the public, led by ward member Kavitha Purushothaman, gathered at kattoor railway gate area with empty pots and sat on the road and staged a picketing.

The public dispersed from the spot after the police and municipal officials rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident and assured them that they would take steps to provide drinking water immediately. Traffic was affected in the Kattoor area for an hour due to this.
