Tirupur: Condemning the gory murder of a VAO in Thoothukudi district, the Village Administrative Officers Association members staged a protest in front of the Dharapuram Taluk office wearing black arm bands.

Lourdes Francis was working as a village administrative officer in Vaikuntam Murappanad Kovil Pathu in Thoothukudi district. When he took action against the sand smugglers, the persons involved in the sand theft barged into the office and hacked him to death before fleeing the scene.
The protest was led by Regional president Soundararajan, the Tamil Nadu Village Administrative Officers' Association. They then paid homage to the slain village administrative officer and demanded that maximum punishment should be given to the killers.
