Trio held for smuggling PDS rice into Kerala, one tonne of rice seized

When Police conducted a vehicle check in Veerappagoundanur near Kinathukadavu in they intercepted two-wheelers and found 14 bags of PDS rice weighing 75 kg each.


Coimbatore: The police arrested a trio including Manikandan, Venkatachalapathy and Prajos for trying to smuggle PDS rice into Kerala on two-wheelers near Veerappanur and seized around one tonne of ration rice from them.

To check PDS rice smuggling vigilance has been intensified across Tamil Nadu on the orders of Arun, Additional Director, Civil Supplies CID, to check smuggling of PDS rice from Tamil Nadu into Kerala.

The Civil Supplies CID has been patrolling the major roads on the Coimbatore-Kerala border, including vital junctions in Walayar, Meenakshipuram, Pollachi and Velanthavalam.

The arrested persons have been identified as Manikandan (35), a native of Kinathukadavu and Venkatachalapathy (41), a resident of Othakkalmandapam.

They used to buy rice at cheaper rates in various parts of Coimbatore and sell it at a higher price to Prajos, a native of Palakkad district in Kerala.
